Control the linux-based Dreambox, produced by the German multimedia vendor Dream Multimedia, remotely with your Windows Mobile smart phone and WMDreamRemote
If you’re reading this, you probably already know all about the Dreambox, one of the most popular lines of digital television series ever to be produced.

Given all the fuss over these digital receivers being remotely controlled by an iPhone, owners of smartphones powered by Windows Mobile are probably feeling left out in the cold right about now. Is there any way to make Windows Mobile-based mobile phones remotely control a Dreambox as well?
“What in the world is a Dreambox?” you still may ask.
Okay, a quick review of the Dreambox reveals it to be a highly-popular series of Linux-based set-top box receivers for DVB satellite and cable digital television channels. These Linux tuners even support terrestrial television (that means your standard plain-jane TV channels, for you non-technical folks out there). It was originally produced by Dream Multimedia, a German multimedia company. The Dreambox series used Linux-based software originally developed for DBox2, another Linux tuner. The DBox2 was originally distributed by KirchMedia, another German company that has since gone “kaputt” due to a bankruptcy. The bankruptcy was a boon to Linux geeks worldwide, as it flooded the market with unsold Dreamboxes available for hobbyist tinkering. The low-cost Dreambox hardware makes Digital Video… Read the rest

The iPhone-4G will be awesome and could come in 5 colors plus motion-control.
Right now it looks like that Apple won’t change much on the 4G design, which shall arrive earlier than expected (April). On the other hand this could be a good sign that Apple will make the new iPhone much more powerful (dual-core). Design is more expensive nowadays then technology.

Is the 4G the technological future (4th generation) of the mobile smart phone or will it only be a bit better then the actual update from the iPhone 3G to the actual iPhone 3GS?

HTC’s statement on SlashGear. HTC is defending their own innovations against Apple
Headlines are filled with htc/apple lawsuit news. Apple has sued HTC for infringing on 20 iPhone patents
image via BBC and WindowsMobile7
Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs said:
- “We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it,”
- “We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.” Apple
On Gizmodo you’ll find The Complete Documents here is the first doc
Here is the statement from HTC posted by SlashGear
“HTC is a mobile technology innovator and patent holder that has been very focused over the past 13 years on creating many of the most innovative smartphones. HTC values patent rights and their enforcement but is also committed to defending its own technology innovations. HTC only learned of Apple’s actions this morning via media reports, and therefore we have not yet had the opportunity to investigate the filings. Until we have had this opportunity, we are unable to comment on the validity of the claims being made against HTC.”

Motorola Droid OTA Android 2.1 update appeared in the wild
Motorola has realized that there is a big frustration growing with their subscriber base outside, not only because of the delays with their software upgrade releases, but also the lack of information they have shown in the last month.
This [RELEASE] OFFICIAL OTA 2.1 DROID SYSTEM DUMP will give developers an overview, of the features in the Android 2.1 OTA update
When you extract the downloaded system.rar file this content will appear
- Gallery3D
- Genie Widget
- Google Goggles
(download via AndroidOverdrive)
The feature list sounds impressive and it is understandable why Droid users would like to have the new update pushed out to their devices.
When the official Droid 2.1 rolls out, there will the expected updates and enhancements be and all will be satisfied
The ‘normal’ Motorola Droid owners will have to wait patiently for the arrival of Droid 2.1.
Official Droid OTA Update Android 2.1
The file which is not installable and is really only useful to developers at this time is available, but please don’t ask me for instructions on how to get it working.

No native apps allowed in Windows Phone 7 Series
Windows Phone 7 is only three days old, but leaked docs from Microsoft supposed to show that the requirements for the developer have turned up (via XDA-Developers)
#WP7 will use both Silverlight and XNA, this decision makes sense it will it the Xbox 360 integration.
Microsoft has been rebuilt their Mobile devices Windows-Mobile from the ground-up, the result could be described as the Zune Phone, the Zune HD has impressed many people
The only allowed apps will be:
- XNA-written apps – mainly for games and full screen immersed apps, that don’t use standard controls; XNA uses .NET technology (managed, not native)
- .NET apps (probably Silverlight?) without possibility to invoke native API, i.e. only “managed” APIs allowed
