Apple’s first iPad TV commercial debuts during the 82nd Annual Academy Awards.

The ad follows Apple’s recent announcement that pre-orders for the device will be accepted beginning March 12, with shipments slated for April 3. Drag this to your browser’s bookmark toolbar, or read the detailed instructions.

I am wondering, what was the need to give the ad when it had nothing new to tell.

Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs said:

  • “We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.” Apple

Here is the statement from HTC posted by SlashGear

“HTC is a mobile technology innovator and patent holder that has been very focused over the past 13 years on creating many of the most innovative smartphones. HTC values patent rights and their enforcement but is also committed to defending its own technology innovations. HTC only learned of Apple’s actions this morning via media reports, and therefore we have not yet had the opportunity to investigate the filings. Until we have had this opportunity, we are unable to comment on the validity of the claims being made against HTC.”

The promise of being able to buy my own components and run a stable copy of OSX made building my own system the perfect way for me to accomplish my objective and likely save a lot of money as well. ExpressHD.com was also kind enough to sponsor this project by sending me one of their EFi-X dongles.”

Hackers are using the tactic demonstrated last week by an Australian programmer’s self-described “prank”

Computerworld reports that

This new worm uses “the same approach as last week’s “ikee” worm to silently snatch control of some iPhones”

“Portable attack runs on Windows PCs and Macs, then sniffs out nearby iPhones to plunder”

“It’s not surprising,” said Charlie Miller, a noted researcher of iPhone vulnerabilities, when asked his take on the move toward malicious intent. “This ‘vulnerability’ gives you root access to the iPhone, which gives you full access. It’s trivial to exploit, doesn’t need shellcode or anything like that.”

Hackintosh 10.6.2?

Electronista reports via “Apple breaking Atom chip support in 10.6.2?”

Apple may have taken out support for Atom processors in its latest beta seed of Mac OS X 10.6.2, one user says. Those testing it claim Apple has changed support in a way that breaks compatibility with the small Intel chips, including their ability to enter sleep mode through an unofficial extension. If it reaches the final build, the move leaves those making “Hackintosh” systems with little choice either to stay with 10.6.1 or else to wait for an unofficial fix.
