LG’s quad-core Optimus G heading to the U.S. in Q4

After a few video teasers and a previous announcement, LG officially announced the availability of its newest flagship phone, the Optimus G. In a press event in New York, LG’s marketing unit revealed that the Optimus G will be available in stores in the fourth quarter of 2012.

What You Need To Know:

  • The LG Optimus G is the first smartphone powered by the 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor along with 2GB RAM.
  • The device also features a 13MP camera, which the company claimed to be the best camera on a smartphone today. To go along with the camera, the device also has a 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen with 1280×760 resolution.
  • To make use of the phone’s powerful processor, LG has several features such as the QSlide Function that displays two apps on the screen at the same time. It also has a pinch-to-zoom feature while viewing HD videos.
  • LG has yet to announce the exact launch date and carrier partner.
  • There were some reports that LG will opt for a November release date. This put them in a big collision course against stiff competition like the Apple’s iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy Note II, Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC One X.
