Republic Wireless, a WiFi-centric mobile operator, is now ready to compete against giant carriers as it again offers its $19 per month unlimited Beta and adds a new phone to its lineup. The start-up carrier introduces the rugged Motorola Defy XT to the U.S.

- The Android 2.3 Motorola Defy XT has a 1GHz processor and 512MB RAM. It also has a 3.7-inch display, 5MP rear-facing camera and a 3MP front-facing camera.
- The phone has rugged design that makes it dust-proof and water resistant.
- The device is available for $250. The phone seems pricey, but it is not tied with a contract and offers a $19 per month unlimited call, text and web service.
- Current Republic Wireless customers could upgrade their LG Optimus to the Motorola Defy XT for $149.
