Smartphone sales boost Samsung Q2 profit
Backed by its robust smartphone sales, Samsung Electronics has set a record second quarter net profit. With the strong demand of the Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung almost doubled the total smartphone shipment of close competitor Apple.
What You Need To Know:
- In the Q2 of 2012 which ended on June 30, Samsung has earned overall net profit of $4.5 billion, a 48 percent increase from Q2 of last year. The company’s mobile business has contributed 63 percent of the total operating profit.
- According to analysts, Samsung has shipped around 52 million smartphones in the quarter. Meanwhile, Apple has shipped 26 million iPhones.
- Looking ahead in Q3, Samsung revenue may slow down a bit due to patent disputes against Apple and the weakening demand of smartphones in Europe.
